There are several great e-readers available at prices lower than you'd usually find them.

From Amazon's older Kindle Scribe (which remains my personal favorite of the Scribe line) and colorful Colorsoft models to Kobo's Libra Colour , my all-around favorite e-reader, there are plenty of options at decent discounts.

It's the perfect time to get ahead on Mother's Day and Father's Day shopping, find a gift for your favorite graduate-to-be, or just grab a new e-reader for yourself if you're tired of reading Libby books on your iPhone, like I was.

Switching to a Kindle ( and a Kindle holder ) gave my wrists and eyes more joy than you could ever guess.

Here are the best e-reader deals I spotted during Amazon's Big Spring Sale , as WIRED's resident e-reader reviewer .

It's easy to annotate on the pages themselves, too, and color-code your highlights.

It's often on sale for this same $30 off, but still worth snagging at this price.

I still reach for this model even though I have the newer third generation , and keep in mind the second generation will also get some of the newer software and experiences over time.

With the sale, it's half the price of the newer model.

While the Kobo above is the better buy, if you want to stay in the Kindle ecosystem but add some color to your books, both the Colorsoft and Colorsoft Signature are on sale.
